Mark "Tanner" Murphy (April 19, 1992 - December 21, 2024), born on Easter Sunday, embodied the spirit of kindness, compassion, and love that shone brightly throughout his life.

A film enthusiast with a vast knowledge of movies, Tanner's passion for cinema was contagious. This passion for film came from his since passed grandfather Larry S. Murphy of Barboursville WV.

In his adult life Tanner was a Merchant Mariner/Towboater for nearly ten years and spent a lot of his time out on the water where he not only worked to make a living, but also made life long friends.

Tanner is survived by his sister and best friend, Tristan Murphy of Prairieville, Louisiana; his mother, Darla Leadmon Murphy and her significant other Wes Kinder of Huntington, West Virginia; his girlfriend, Emily Darnell of Paducah, Kentucky; his father and stepmother, Capt. Mark Murphy and Monica Murphy of Cadiz, Kentucky; Grandmother Carolyn Murphy of Ohio; a host of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins; and last but not least, his loyal canine companion, Betty.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tanner's friends and crew members of the MV Joseph K. Pate especially Chris Neher, as well as his employer, Southern Duvall Towing Company of Hackberry, Louisiana, for their love, support, and camaraderie. Your brotherhood and kindness meant the world to Tanner.

A private ceremony honoring Tanner was held in Prairieville Louisiana with his immediate family.

As Tanner sets sail on his final hitch, we bid him Godspeed.

Though his time with us was far too short, his memory and legacy will never be forgotten.

He will remain forever in our hearts, a shining star guiding us through life's journey.

We wish, Fair Winds and following seas to Tanner, and may his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.

Rest in peace, dear Tanner.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made to the ASPCA in Tanner’s name, honoring his love and compassion for animals.
