Carolyn Louise Murray who was adored by her family as “Grammie” and “Mee-maw” departed for her heavenly home on February 26th, 2025; she was 89 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents Elsie and Elston Brown, her brothers Preston and Byron Brown, and her two sons Michael and Timothy Murray. She is survived by her daughter Lori (Brent) and her two sons Jeff (Colleen) and Bill (Donna). Carolyn was adored by her five children, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, with a twentieth on the way.

Carolyn was born May 21st, 1935 in Danville, Illinois. As a little girl, she enjoyed spending time in her family’s general store: Brown Bros. Hardware in Bismark, IL. During her youth, Carolyn was recognized for her exceptional skill at sewing, baking, and cooking for which she has won many awards and accolades. Carolyn attended Bismark Grade School followed by Bismark Township High School where she made many lifelong friends. Carolyn married and had five children whom she adored and loved. Later in life, she attended Danville Area Community College where she earned her LPN. She spent her career as a labor and delivery nurse at United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, IL. She took joy in helping bring new life into the world, which enabled her to assist with the deliveries of many of her own grandchildren.

In her golden years, Carolyn moved to Louisiana and lived with her daughter, Lori. She took great pleasure in crocheting, sewing, and crafting many beautiful keepsakes for her loved ones. Carolyn was also a sports enthusiast who loved watching women’s basketball while sharing an ice-cold Coca-Cola with her grandchildren. Carolyn was an avid collector and a curator of family heirlooms, stories, and traditions. She was an amateur historian who loved preserving and sharing family genealogy and Bismarck history.

Carolyn was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who delighted in the presence of her family. Right before her death, her family gathered around her and among her final words, she said “I love you all so much. I couldn’t imagine a better family. I really couldn’t.” Her message will be cherished and preserved within her family’s memories just as she would have wanted.

Services for Carolyn will be held on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 at The Venue 2, suite M/N 13475 Hwy. 431 in St. Amant, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with a service to follow.
