Gary Paul Blanchard, a beloved retired worker of The Port of New Orleans, passed away on December 3, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on May 22, 1954, in his hometown of New Orleans, Gary had an incredible impact on the people around him throughout his life.
Gary's career at The Port of New Orleans was marked by dedication and passion. Working diligently until his retirement in 2017, he made a significant contribution to the efficient operations and growth of the port. His commitment and expertise were renowned among colleagues and superiors alike. Gary's positive attitude and willingness to lend a helping hand made him a respected figure within the port community.
Beyond his professional life, Gary had a deep love for music. He passionately played the guitar and devoted many hours to perfecting his skills. Whether it was strumming chords from his favorite songs or joining local musicians for jam sessions, Gary's musical talent brought joy to those around him. His love for music was infectious, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of hearing him play.
Tragically, Gary passed away at home in Prairieville after battling an extended illness. Despite the hardship that he faced towards the end of his life, Gary showed incredible strength and determination throughout his fight. His unwavering spirit was an inspiration to all who knew him.
As we reflect on Gary's life, it is essential to acknowledge the profound impact he had on those closest to him. He leaves behind a grieving family and circle of friends who will cherish their memories with him forever.
Gary is survived by his longtime companion, Ms. Kevin Kern, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Her unwavering support provided comfort during difficult times and brought immeasurable happiness to their lives as well.
He is also survived by Lori Willis of Mississippi, a cousin with whom he shared cherished memories from childhood to adulthood. Their bond as cousins brought them closer together as they navigated life's ups and downs side by side.
In addition, Lary and Vickie Blanchard of New Orleans, Gary's cherished cousins, were an integral part of his life. They shared countless adventures, laughter, and family gatherings that created memories to be cherished for generations to come.
Jane Kohl of Alabama was another cousin with whom Gary shared a close relationship. Their connection grew stronger over the years, providing a source of support and understanding during both joyful and difficult times.
Lastly, Gary's faithful companion Roux, a canine friend who offered unwavering loyalty and love throughout his life, will miss his kind and gentle presence.
Gary Paul Blanchard will forever be remembered for his dedication to his work at The Port of New Orleans, his incredible musical talent, and the love he shared with those closest to him. His positive spirit and warm heart will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
