Gary W. Whittington passed away on November 2, 2023, after a twenty-nine-month courageous battle with metastatic liposarcoma. Gary was born on October 15, 1946, to Earl and Frances Chaney Whittington.
Gary is survived by his wife Vicki Landry Whittington; his six children, Wendy Woodward (Troy), Wade (Kelly), Ashli Duplessis, Arlene LeBourgeois, Amanda Rabalais (Adam), and Brett (Carie). He also leaves behind to cherish his memory 23 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Tyler, Jacelyn, Kaston, John, Lance, Thad, Somer, Olivia, Alec, Isaiah, Isabella, Tatum, Lorelie, Elliot, Katelyn, Madison, Beckham, Kori, Brynne, Chase, and Lainey; brothers, Elvin and Gaynell; sister, Sissy Blanchard; numerous nieces, nephews, and his faithful canine companion and best friend, Buddy. Gary was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Sonny (Kenneth) and Michael (Bubby), and sister, Earline Nadeau.
Gary is a 1966 graduate of Central High School and a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, gardening, and LSU baseball. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Eternal gratitude is given to his caregivers, Dwayne Digirolamo, Elvin and Gaynell, Altha LeBlanc, Gail Pace, Amanda, Adam, and Brett. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vince Cataldo, Dustin Denicola, Dr. Shaun Accardo, Pinnacle Hospice employees, Shelly, Farrell, Leona, Jason and to the Palliative Care Team including Dr. Mary Raven and Dr. Andre Bonnecaze.
Honorary pallbearers are Brett Whittington, Chase Tisdale, Elvin Whittington, Gaynell Whittington, Adam Rabalais, Wade Whittington, Dwayne Digirolamo, Stan Webster, Hugh Haulbrook, Mike Fontenot, and Allen Landry.
Visitation will be held at Zoar Baptist Church on November 11, 2023, from 10AM to 12PM. Service at 12PM. You may, in lieu of flowers, make a donation in Gary’s memory to OLOL Cancer Center, Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or any charity of your choice.
