Harold Schilling, affectionately known as Bob or Bobby by friends and family, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 10, 2023 at Lakeview Hospital in Covington, La. At the age of 71.

God blessed this earth with him on October 18, 1951 in Ponchatoula La., and he will be laid to rest at Wadesboro Cemetery in Ponchatoula, La.

He worked as a floor installer and then floor salesman for 30+ years until he retired in 2002.

Harold was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. To those who knew him, they would tell you how much they enjoyed his crazy sense of humor and the way his laugh could infect anyone in the room. Harold’s passion was cooking! He would love for friends and family to gather at his house on a beautiful Sunday and cook “supper”. This brought him such joy to watch everyone enjoy the food he prepared while he would share his tips and tricks of cooking. Harold also enjoyed taking trips to the ponds in Springfield, this is where he found his peace and relaxation, when it was just him and God. But Harold’s favorite pastime was to take his family on drives around the countryside, a couple times a month, of his beloved city of Ponchatoula. He would share the many stories from his childhood, and would always make sure to stop by the graveyards to check on his parents and make sure their graves were clean and taken care of. Anyone who had the pleasure of going on one of these trips would tell you that it always ended with a delicious lunch.

Harold is proceeded in death by his father, Alphonse Schilling, his mother, Ann “Chot” Schilling, and his brother, Jerry Schilling.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn Schilling Gardner and her husband Vance. His son John Paul Schilling and his step son Jason Tate and wife Christian. His two grandchildren, who were the light of his life and apple of his eye, Joel King and Madison Schilling. Harold also has two great grandchildren Emma and Everly King. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Corey whom he adored and loved with all his heart. Along with his niece and nephew, Christy and Brain Corey. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins that he had kept contact with. Harold made many friends through out his life, but several held special places in his heart, including his ex-wife/friend, Jewell Varnado, his best buddy for over 40 years Mike Hebert ,his” adopted” daughter Amanda Steele and her husband Trey, and family friend/event photographer, Maria Self.

Harold will be missed every single day, but we are all at peace knowing that he is dancing, cooking, and fishing in Heaven with Jesus! His advice and wisdom will continue to live through us every day, and every time we smell a BBQ, drive through Ponchatoula, or eat at Piccadilly, we will remember him and all that he has done for his family and the love he poured out to us all.
