Janette Courreges
affectionately known as "Monette" to her grandchildren
December 4, 1945
Dixie, Mississippi
Janette was happily retired after teaching English for several years and was loved by a multitude of former students. She loved reading books, especially mysteries and books about spirituality and faith.
She had a passion for raising animals and gardening which she happily shared with her grandchildren. Everyone was blessed with her natural gifts of her cooking and of her sharing her natural ingredients with family and friends. One of the highlights of her year every year was visiting with family members during the summer at the annual McFarland family reunion held at Paul B. Johnson State Park in Mississippi. She also was an excellent caregiver to all of those around her. Everyone saw her house as a safe haven to go to and enjoy just being themselves.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Burke Philpot. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Waites and Audie McFarland, brothers Rogers Alex McFarland and Thomas McFarland and sister Betty Sue McFarland.
She is survived by her son Patrick McFarland Courreges, step-son Brad Philpot and his wife Jennifer, grandsons Christopher Courreges, Tanner Philpot and Cody Philpot and granddaughter Lauren Wood and fiancé Alex Sutherlin, her sisters Annette McFarland Dawkins (who was her identical twin), Joan McFarland (Eddie) Wedster (Eddie), Sherrie Marie McFarland (Hans) Howes, brothers Kenneth Thompson McFarland, Waites "Buddy" McFarland Jr., Barkley McFarland, Ronald (Dale) McFarland and William "Jackie" Jackson (Audrey) McFarland. She is also survived by her former sister-in-law and dear friend Geraldine and her former daughter-in-law and friend Danielle Wood Courreges and all of her very loved nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
In lieu of presents, Janette's family would prefer you to send a donation to the charity of your choice in her name.
Janette's love of life, sense of humor and nurturing nature will be deeply, deeply missed by all who loved her.
As Janette would have liked, an informal casual memorial service to honor her life will be held at her home, 36162 Walker Rd in Walker, La. at 1:30 Saturday, January 20.
