Johnnie Slay Sr, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 79 in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

Born on October 26, 1945, to Darrie Lee Slay and Lorene Evelyn Slay, Johnnie grew up surrounded by love and the values that would shape him into the man he became. In 1993, he married the love of his life, Ava Slay.

Johnnie was a proud veteran who served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, and fought in the Vietnam War. In his free time, he enjoyed watching Nascar races and was a history buff. Johnnie was a retired truck driver and adored his late dog Mis-C.

He is survived by his wife Ava Brunner Slay, sisters, Marie Corbin (Jeff) & Darlene Slay, Brother-in-Laws AJ Burch & Terry Russell, children Johnnie Slay Jr(Sarah), Kenneth Allen Slay "Buck", Laurie Slay, Darrie Ernest Slay Sr. (Fiance' Amanda), Trey Hardesty (Jessica), and Sara Hardesty, as well as his 21 beloved Grandchildren, & 34 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Darrie Lee & Lorene Evelyn Slay, Daughter Laurie Slay, Sisters Vonville Burch & Carolyn Kohler, Great Grandson Johnny Matthews, Step-Son Joshua Brunner, Nephew Joshua O'Hearn, Sister-in-Law Kathy Russell, Niece Melissa Mooney.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 9am-11am at the Church International in St. Amant. 13423 Hwy 431 St. Amant, LA 70774. A Celebration of Life service immediately follows at 11 am. Please come dressed comfortably, just as Johnnie would have wanted

Ms. Ava, I did not know your husband, but he had to be an outstanding person all around to win and keep your heart for so long. I am so very sorry for your loss.
