Joseph (Joe) Lucio, 79, passed away from his earthly life on Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Baton Rouge, La. Joe was born on August 2, 1945, in Donaldsonville, La.
He is survived by his son Joseph (JoJo) Christopher Lucio of Baton Rouge; Jason Beck of Andalusia, Alabama; long term partner in life Wanda Lee of Baton Rouge; sister Terry Mabile of Paincourtville, La.; and brother Kirk Newchurch (Danette) of Napoleonville, La. Joe is also survived by JoJo’s mother, Kay E. Lucio, as well as numerous beloved family members in Louisiana and Texas.
Joe is preceded in death by his mother Camilla Newchurch of Paincourtville, La.; father Jose Lucio of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law Kimberly Lucio; and brother-in-law Charles Mabile.
Joe served in the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam Era. In Joe's later years, he taught classes at the Baton Rouge Parish Prison, was a member of American Legion Nicholson Post #38, and a member of various other organizations dedicated to helping the homeless and those with addictive disorders.
He was intensely involved in outreach programs for the homeless veteran population and was well known throughout the community for his endeavors. Everyone knows that Joe loved dogs beyond measure.
Visitation and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at Healing Place Church Annex on Highland Road from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the ASPCA or the American Legion Nicholson Post #38 Homeless Veterans’ Fund.
