Judy Johnson Hyman passed away in her home in Baton Rouge, LA on March 13, 2025. She was born in Little Rock, AR on July 11, 1947, and raised in North Little Rock. She was 77 years old.
Judy was married to her husband of 28 years, Hugh Hyman, Jr. until his passing in 1998. She was a devoted and loving mother to her two children, Hugh Hyman III, and Laura Hyman. She also was the granny to two fur grandbabies, Emmie (a very sweet beagle) and Juliet (a rambunctious young cat) whom she spoiled rotten.
Judy was as active member of Parkview Baptist Church and a crafty quilter in the Patchwork Pelicans Quilt Guild, a hobby she absolutely loved. Many of her vacations in her later life were bus tours throughout the country visiting quilt shops and enjoying the sites and good food along the way. Through her life, she enjoyed a number of other crafts and hobbies including photography, crocheting, pottery, and embroidery among others.
Judy was also active in several service organizations through her life, including as a member of the Jaycee Jaynes, a troop committee member of Boy Scout Troop 478, Brownie leader within the Girls Scouts, and various positions within the Baptist church.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Hugh Hyman, Jr.; father, Robert Johnson; mother, Mrytle Jackson; step-father, Lewis Jackson; and brother, Tommy Johnson as well as several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her children, Hugh Hyman III and Laura Hyman; sister, Debbie Holcomb (husband, David Holcomb); nephew, Rob Taylor (spouse, Meg Taylor); as well as several other nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Parkview Baptist Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, March 20, 2025; public visitation from 9:30a-11:00a and services beginning at 11:00a. Judy will be interred next to her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery in McKamie, AR.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the kind words and memories of Judy so many have shared with us as well as the outpouring of support with have received. It has brought us a great deal of comfort to see the love so many people had for our mother.
